We started yearly “half-birthday interviews” when Perry was two and a half. It has been so fun to see how his answers have changed and matured over the years. So when Clara turned 2.5 we could not wait to get her first set of interview responses.
But first, a story…
As we go through this “rite of passage” in our house, I am reminded of just how far she has come in the talking department over the past year. This time last year, we were beginning to realize that Clara wasn’t talking as well as she should be. We spent countless hours worrying, praying, and consulting experts locally and on the internet. She didn’t qualify for early intervention (she wasn’t quite 25% delayed and her receptive language was on target) but thankfully we were able to get plugged into out-patient therapy. We will never know if it was therapy or just time she needed, but slowly our girl found her voice and language.
A couple of weeks ago we were sitting in Chickfila having dinner as a family and a sweet older couple at the table next to us turned and commented about just how well she could talk. Y’all, I thought I was about to burst into tears right in the middle of CFA – that our once speech delayed girl could get complimented on her speech by a complete stranger (thank you sweet woman, wherever you are!). Without further adieu, here is the first of many half birthday interviews with our Clara girl…
